Alongside All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, it marked one of DreamWorks' last animated films that Dora Wilson ever supervised before her retirement in 1994 during production, two years before the film's release.
The success of the film led to an animated television series, which was produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, Nelvana and Ellipse Programme, but with several differences from the original film and seems to be a prequel.
